Brewton beats EC Gold 13-1

After grabbing an early 1-0 lead over the Brewton All Stars Saturday afternoon, things went downhill in a hurry for the Escambia County Gold All Stars as Brewton scored 13 unanswered runs to grab a 13-1 win in four innings on Saturday in East Brewton.
With the win, Brewton advanced in the winners bracket to play Andalusia who defeated Evergreen. Escambia County Gold dropped to the losers bracket and was scheduled to play Evergreen on Sunday.
Both teams' games, along with all games scheduled for Sunday were canceled for the day due to rain in the area.
All games were pushed back a day.
In the game on Saturday, Brewton scored seven runs in the first inning to overcome a 1-0 lead and take a 7-1 lead after one inning of play. The Brewton All Stars then added two runs in the second inning to go ahead 9-1 and then added four in the bottom of the third inning to grab a 13-1 lead.
Needing only three outs and no runs by Escambia County Gold to claim the 10-run mercy rule for the win, Brewton did just that in the top of the fourth inning to claim the 13-1 win.
Cole Blackmon got the start on the mound and the no decision as Ethan Tyree came in relief of Blackmon to get the win.
Blackmon went 1/3 of an inning and allowed one run and had one strikeout and two walks. Tyree went 2/3 of an inning and allowed no runs and had one strikeout.
Jordan Williams went the remainder of the game for Brewton and had five strikeouts, gave up three hits, and walked five.
The Brewton trio of pitchers allowed only three hits in the game.
Jack Coppenger took the loss on the mound for the Escambia County Gold team. Colton Morris who went one inning before being relived by Colton Young relieved Coppenger.
In the top of the first inning for Escambia Gold, Quinn Riley reached on a one out walk before a Brewton error allowed Colton Young to reach base and move Riley to second.
Colton Morris was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Garrett Hart then walked to score Riley and give Escambia County Gold the early 1-0 lead.
The run would be the only run of the inning and the game for the Gold team.
For Brewton in the bottom of the first inning, Brooks Brown led the inning off with a double and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Jake Najor later scored Brooks with a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1.
Cole Blackmon followed with a single and stole second base for Trippe Floyd tripled to give Brewton a 2-1 lead.
Ethan Tyree followed Floyd's triple with a single to make it a 3-1 lead for Brewton. Tyree would later score for Brewton along with Markail Mitchell.
Jared Cooper and Jonathan Lucas both singled and scored to give Brewton a 7-1 lead after one inning of play.
In the second inning, Floyd tripled again for Brewton and then scored on Jordan Williams single. Williams scored to put Brewton up 9-2 when Austin Holmes walked with the bases loaded.
In the third inning, Brewton added four more runs to go up 13-1 and claim the win.
Offensively for Escambia County Gold, Young led the team going 2-for-3 on the day with two singles. Dakota Graves was 1-for-1 for Escambia County and had the other hit for the team in the loss.
Garrett Hart had the lone RBI for the Escambia County Gold team.
For the Brewton All Stars, Trippe Floyd led the team with two triples and an RBI followed by Jonathan Lucas' 2-for-3 day with two singles.
Jared Cooper was 2-for-2 with two singles and one RBI and Lane Clark was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a single.
Jordan Williams was 1-for-2 with a single and an RBI and Jake Najor was 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI.
Cole Blackmon went 1-for-3 with a single and Brooks Brown was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Tyree followed with a 1-for-1 day and a RBI.
Will Smith added an RBI for the Brewton team in the win.
