Coming into Monday night's game against Monroe County in Evergreen, the 13-year-old Brewton All Stars knew the task in front of them.
They had to beat a Monroe County team that had previously beaten them 15-13 twice to win the district.
Well, consider that task complete as the Brewton team worked their way out of the losers bracket to defeat Monroe County 7-4 in game one and 10-7 in game two to claim the 13-year-old Babe Ruth district championship Monday night.
Not only did Brewton have to work their way out of the losers bracket, they had to endure two rainouts and play two consecutive doubleheader games to claim the championship.
Brewton defeated Evergreen 22-1 to open the tournament Thursday night before having Friday's games moved to Saturday due to rain.
On Saturday, Brewton fell to Monroe County 15-13 to fall into the losers bracket and then defeated Atmore 7-3 to set up a rematch against Monroe County on Sunday.
After trying to wait out the rain on Sunday, games were canceled due to more rain. Brewton then returned back to Evergreen and beat Monroe County 7-4 in game one to set up a second game for the championship.
In game two, the Brewton team built a big lead only to see Monroe County cut the lead to one run. The Brewton team fought back and took the win and the championship late into the night.
