Young athletes from around the county were able to play out their dreams of baseball on a field made possible by a local industrial citizen.
Officials from Brewton's Georgia Pacific mill took part in the initiation of a new ball field at the R.T. Johnson Park in East Brewton as the local All-Stars tournament got underway last week.
Georgia-Pacific's Dennis Sharpe, controller at the Brewton facility, was on hand to throw out the first pitch in the inaugural game on the field.
Georgia-Pacific's Brewton Mill presented a $132,000 check to the City of East Brewton to be used to construct the field at the city's R.T. Johnson Sports Park.
Work on the field began in March prior to the Georgia-Pacific donation, Clark said.
Construction on the field took just over two months to complete, Clark said.
Fencing, lighting and baseline grids were completed under the direction of Recreational Director Joey Shell for the City of East Brewton.
