When an Escambia County trustee inmate made an escape and was captured last week, officials with the Escambia County Sheriff's looked at the situation as a learning experience.
Cody Lawrence, 19, of Gordon Lane, climbed over the fence in the recreation yard of the work release center after dark June 26. Law enforcement officers began a search immediately for the escapee.
Lawrence was apprehended Friday at the Colonial Manor Motel by sheriff's deputies and officers with the Drug Task Force. He returned to the Escambia County Detention Center following his capture.
Gleaton said the Escambia County Sheriffs Department is always eager to learn more about law enforcement and used this experience to educate themselves on how better to safeguard the public.
In a press release last week, officials said Lawrence had just gotten word his probation for a previous charge had been revoked. Because of that charge, Lawrence was facing a two-year prison sentence.  The escapee is now facing escape charges on top of the burglary charge.
