Just like their counterparts from East Brewton, the Brewton 11-and-12-year-old All Star team ran into a brick wall in their opening round game in Brewton.
East Brewton succumbed to a great hitting and pitching Opp team and lost 13-0. Brewton ran into the same thing, just to the Andalusia All Star team as they fell 13-2 Monday night in Brewton at YMCA Sports Park.
Brewton batters struck out 12 times in the game and only managed one hit while Andalusia pounded out nine hits and benefited from six Brewton walks and two Brewton errors.
In the first inning, starting Brewton pitcher Kieon Smith gave up three runs as Brewton fell behind early 3-0 after the top of the first inning.
After throwing only one pitch and getting one out against Brewton in the bottom of the first inning, lightning and thunder in the area halted the game for a while before the game resumed and Brewton was held scoreless in the inning.
Rob Stokes picked up the lone Brewton hit in the first inning.
In the top of the second inning, Andalusia score three more runs in the inning, two charged to Brewton pitcher Smith who was forced out of the game. Smith went 1 and 1/3 inning and was charged with five runs and the loss.
After two innings, Andalusia held a 6-0 lead before scoring three more runs in the fourth inning and two each in the fifth and sixth innings to claim the 13-2 lead.
Brewton scored one run in the third inning and another in the fifth inning to escape being 10-run mercy ruled.
Rob Stokes led Brewton at the plate in the game picking up the lone Brewton hit and going 1-for-3.
Smith took the loss on the mound for Brewton. Dominique Jackson, Caden Lodge, Darby Black, Trey Salter and Zachary Griffin relieved Smith.
Brewton was scheduled to take on East Brewton in the losers bracket game Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at the Brewton YMCA Sports Park.
The winner of Tuesday night's game advanced to play the Evergreen/Covington County winner on Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the loser being eliminated from the tournament.
