Mrs. Hazel Verita Thomas, 64, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at a local hospital. She was a native and life long resident of Flomaton. She had been a manager of a number of convenience stores. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Moyeville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Ray Thomas; and two sisters, Alma Lois Knowles and Doris Stewart.
She is survived by a son, Richard (Robin) Thomas of Moyeville; two brothers, Huey (Gwin) Knowles of Flomaton, and Delmas “Jack” Knowles of Stanley Cross Road Community; two sisters, Faye Cumbie of Flomaton and Beckie (Howard) Smith of Brewton; and a grandson, Ethan Thomas.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 6, at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home chapel with Brother David Taylor officiating. Burial followed at Catawba Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Archie Dansby, Edwin Knowles, Scottie Stewart, Tony Thomas, Phillip Boutwell and Aubrey Roberson. Honorary pallbearer was Tex Boutwell.
