Tuesday night's 3-0 win over Brewton is more than a victory for East Brewton 11-and-12-year-old pitcher Dylan Godwin-it's a great memory.
Godwin not only got the win on the mound for East Brewton over Brewton, but also pitched a perfect game while doing so.
Godwin went six innings and allowed no runs, no hits, and no walks and recorded nine strikeouts.
During the regular season for East Brewton Little League, Godwin's All Star coach Danny Parker was head coach of the Yankees, while Godwin was on the Dodgers. They were rivals during the regular season.
In their first two games of the tournament combined, Brewton and East Brewton combined for only one hit and two runs while being outscored 26-2.
On Tuesday, between the two teams, only two hits were managed with both coming from East Brewton.
Miles Powell doubled in the fourth inning and Quantae Barksdale doubled in the fifth inning.
Starting Brewton pitcher Darby Black matched Godwin pitch for pitch, but Godwin got the upper hand. Black went five innings in the loss and allowed two runs on two hits and walked two and struck out eight.
East Brewton took an early lead in the top of the first inning after a leadoff walk to Godwin.
Godwin quickly stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to put East Brewton up 1-0.
In the fourth inning, East Brewton threatened to score more runs after the leadoff double by Powell, but a fielder's choice by Tyler Joyner ended in a double play after Powell was thrown out at third base for the third out of the inning.
But in the fifth inning, East Brewton added two insurance runs to claim the 3-0 lead. A leadoff walk to Damien Williams and a wild pitch put Williams on second base with no outs.
From there, Barksdale doubled in Williams and after Barksdale stole third, a Brewton throwing error put East Brewton up 3-0.
From there, it was all Godwin as he picked up his 12th strikeout of the game in the inning and East Brewton won 3-0.
Powell and Barksdale both went 1-for-2 for East Brewton at the plate to lead offensively. Barksdale had one RBI and Cam Easterling added one RBI in the win.
