Team with Brewton connections take championship

Three people with connections to Brewon on the 12U Prattville softball team recently won the NSA Alabama State Championship.
Abbie Smith and Coach Billy Scott are the granddaughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Scott of Brewton.
Hannah Burch is the great-granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoomes of Brooklyn.
The 12U Prattville Team A captured the NSA Alabama All-Star State Championship this past weekend at Liberty Park in Birmingham, Alabama.
Prattville Team A faced a very tough Limestone County team in their first game. The game went into extra innings with Prattville Team A eventually winning 4-3. In their second game Prattville Team A defeated the 2007 state champions Walker County by a score of 5-4. The girls came out swinging in their third game against Vestavia Hills and wrapped up an 8-3 victory.
This win propelled Prattville Team A into the championship.
Prattville Team A was the home team against Oak Mountain for the State
Championship. The game was tight from the first pitch. Oak Mountain jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the third inning. Prattville Team A scored a run in the fourth inning, and then the game was delayed due to rain.
After the one-hour rain delay, Prattville Team A scored another run in the fifth inning to tie the game.
The 90-minute time limit had expired in top of the sixth inning and Oak Mountain failed to score any runs.
In the bottom of the sixth, Prattville Team A was able to add one run to win the championship.
There was no most valuable player for the tournament, everyone stepped up and performed as a team carrying themselves on to victory.
The team posted an overall record of 19 - 1 in post-season play and outscored their opponents 224 - 54.
Team averages for batting was .374, slugging was .520 and on base percentage was .481.
