Mr. Billy Joe Latty, 80, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at his residence in Flomaton. He was a native of Westbrook, Texas, and a resident of Flomaton since 1972 coming from Stanton, Texas. He was retired from Exxon after working for more than 34 years. He was also retired from the U.S. Army. He was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, James Gaston and Nellie James Snellgrove Latty; his children, Vickie Yvonne, Billy Chris and Marsha Rebecca; and his brother, Bobby Gene Latty.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Latty of Flomaton; two daughters, Joni (Bill) Harris of Pollard, and Glynith (Ronald) Byrd of Atmore; a sister, Nelda Fay Hazlewood of Stanton, Texas; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 14, at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doug Hogg and Dr. Larry Patterson officiating. Burial followed at Little Escambia Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were Billy Owens, Tommy Wilkerson, Kevin Bishop, Kevin Jordan, Donald Jordan, and Mitch Norman. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Johnson, Wayne Owens, Lacy Wilkerson, Spook Spilker, and Aubrey Strength.
