The Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce is planning to pool its resources with the city and other donors to commission a retail study of the community.
Jackson Hines, a chamber board member, told city council members Tuesday the chamber will put up $5,000 toward the study by the Buxton consulting firm, which uses retail data from outlying areas to prepare a detailed analysis of where residents' retail dollars are being spent.
Mayor Ted Jennings said the entire study could cost between $20,000 and $22,500. A private donor has tentatively agreed to provide $10,000 of that cost, and the city would make up the rest.
