After picking up the first Brewton Little League state win in over 10 years, the Brewton 10- and 11-year-old All-Stars ended their state bid Thursday night in a 12-3 loss to the Huntsville All-Stars at their state tournament in Sylacauga. With the loss, Brewton finished fourth in the state.
Huntsville hit their way to an early eight run lead at the top of the first inning.
Chris Jones hit a double bringing in two runs for Brewton, but Brewton was shortly shut down. As lightening flashed in the background Huntsville put three more runs on the board in the next two innings.
Brewton pitcher Todd Mayo slid through the mud at home plate and Walker Harris made a diving catch in center to thwart Huntsville at the top of the fourth.
Driving rain then halted play after one out in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Play resumed the next day and Brewton's defense held Huntsville to one runner with bases loaded in the fifth inning.
Todd Mayo started the bottom of the fifth with a shot to left for a single and James Peach laid the ball down at second advancing Mayo.
Mayo then scored on a grounder hit by Jones to cut into the Huntsville lead.
Both teams were scoreless in the sixth inning as Huntsville advanced to the next game to play Jackson with the 12-3 win.
