Joe Hutchins has liked fast cars all of his life and that passion turned into a $10,000 landfall recently when he won the “Pinks All Out” race at the Gainesville Dragway in Gainesville, Fla.
Hutchins, who graduated at T.R. Miller High School in 1987, is stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Valdosta, Ga., where he has taken up his love of racing.
Smokin' Joe, as Hutchins is known on the base and at the racetrack, traveled Florida to take part in the Speed Channel's “Pinks” racing competition and took the top honors away from 479 other hopefuls.
The final race consisted of three individual heats as the two races ran hot laps three times at the Gainesville track.
Hutchins racing expertise will be shown on the Speed Channel Thursday evening at 8 p.m.
