Escambia County Board of Education members William Grissett and Cereal Daniel of Atmore and Richard Hawthorne of Flomaton will be honored during the Alabama Association of School Boards' (AASB) Summer Conference in Orange Beach next week for advancing in the organization's Academy.
Grissett, Daniel and Hawthorne are among 254 board members statewide who will be honored at the conference next week for advancing to a new level in the Academy.
Board members are honored for their attempts to better their “boardmanship skills, increase their understanding of education issues and heighten their leadership skills by participating in the Academy,” according to a news release from the AASB.
Daniel said the conference serves as the training.
Daniel has completed Level III of the Academy, which requires 75 training hours. Grissett and Hawthorne have completed the Master Level, which requires 15 training hours, including one core curriculum course.
Grissett said in order to achieve the Master levels, board members must first complete four regular academic levels.
Grissett said all board members must complete at least 12 hours of training, but he feels its important to go the extra mile.
Grissett, Daniel, Hawthorne and board member board member Michael Goolsby along with superintendent Billy Hines will be at the conference July 27-30.
