Red Cross aids area families

In the past year, the East Escambia County chapter of the American Red Cross has served Brewton area families in a variety of ways - with emergency meals, help paying power bills, assistance after a fire and other needs.
The chapter held is annual meeting and luncheon Thursday.
This year, Red Cross has helped 11 families recover from house fires; offered assistance at three disasters, including a train derailment and hurricane; offered food to 541 families through its emergency food pantry; and helped 112 families pay utility bills through Project Share.
Board chairwoman Janie Hamric thanked the members of the community who participated in this year's Heroes campaign, which raised $15,000 for Red Cross.
During the meeting, the board approved several new members: Joe Dozier, military commandant for the local American Legion; Donna Windling, owner of WOW Caf
