Al Wood proclaimed his innocence Tuesday as he entered a not guilty plea on charges of receiving stolen property and impersonating a police officer.
A resident of East Brewton, Wood has claimed the charges against him are politically motivated since he is running for mayor of the city. Prosecutors have said the charges have nothing to do with politics and are the result of an investigation and indictment by the grand jury.
The charges against Wood are considered Class C felonies, which carry a punishment of between one and 10 years in prison and no more than a $15,000 fine.
In his plea hearing, Wood waived an arraignment in the case.
