Labor Day has, for many years, been the official end to summer. Even though we are still a week away from that date, summer has been over for many people. As for myself, summer is pretty much over when students start back to school.
For the second year, The Brewton Standard is asking for photos showing us how wonderful your summer was.
In last year's contest, judges had to make some tough decisions when choosing winning photographs submitted by readers of this paper.
I can assure you that I am thankful not to have been a judge for that contest. We were not able to publish every picture that was submitted. I can certainly tell you that I was plenty jealous of some folks who obviously had wonderful, fun-filled summer vacations and family gatherings.
The Brewton Standard is again asking you to make us jealous again this year.
In our photo contest, we are asking that readers submit photos of pretty much anything you did or saw this summer. It could be the cute child at the family reunion enjoying their first taste of watermelon or the tiny fish grandma caught on the river.
Some readers submitted photos of spectacular sights they had an opportunity to see over the summer. Sights like mountaintops, beaches, skyscrapers and so many other interesting places were shown to us through those entries in last year's contest.
If you're interested in entering your photos, there are a couple of ways to do it. You can drop the photos by our offices at 407 St. Nicholas Ave. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, mail the photos to Photo Contest, The Brewton Standard, P.O. Box 887, Brewton, AL 36427 or email them to us at newsroom@brewtonstandard.com.
Whichever way you decide to enter your photos, we encourage you to get them in soon. The deadline for entries is Sept. 5. The best photo will receive a $100 cash prize with second place receiving $75 and third place getting a cool $25. Just think of the gas you can buy with that money.
So get your film developed or hook up your digital camera to the computer and get some photos in for the contest. Go ahead; make me jealous of your summer.
