After several weeks of summer conditioning and fall practices and a practice Kick Off Classic game last week against Escambia County, the W.S. Neal Eagle football team will kick off their 2008 season Thursday night at home against the Monroe County High School Tigers.
The Eagles are coming off an 8-7 loss to the Blue Devils of Atmore last Thursday in a two-quarter pre-season game.
On defense, Hathcock saw some good things, but he also noticed some things that need to be corrected.
While the Eagles participated in a pre-season game, Monroeville did not. With that, Hathcock and the Eagles do not have much to go on except what the Eagles have seen in the past from the Eagles.
Last year, Monroeville went 1-9. This year, they have moved up to class 5A and return seven starters. Some key players to watch out for are quarterback Trevor Manuel, running back Sherrod Smith and wide receiver Grant White.
With a win the first game of the season, Hathcock said it helps going into the region part of the schedule in week two.
Game time is 7 p.m. Thursday at W.S. Neal Blue Eagle Stadium.
