The T.R. Miller Tigers cross-country team will begin its 2008 season Saturday in Foley at the Foley Invitational.
This year's team will feature eight boys and eight girls on the teams with two returning boys and four girls returning from last year.
For the boys, the Tigers return 2008-2009 captain Geoff Youngblood and Cole Pruitt.
First year runner and senior John Mathieu is running for the Tigers this season.
Sophomore Taylor Terry and first-year runner Gerric Woods will run for the team this season.
On the girls side, Amber Nelson, Shelby Youngblood, Taylor Guthrie and Abbi Carlson return from last season.
Newcomers on the team this year are Karissa and Katie Nelson.
The cross county Tigers will open their 2008 season this Saturday in Foley at the Foley Invitational at 8:30 a.m.
On Sept. 13, T.R. Miller will travel to Mobile for the Azalea City Invitational and will head to Pace on Tuesday, Sept. 16 for a race.
On Sept. 20, the Tigers will travel to Pensacola for the Gulf Coast Stampede at 8 a.m. In October, beginning on Oct. 4, the Tigers will travel to Pensacola for the Wildcat Invitational and the next Saturday will head to Mobile for the Great Muddy race.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14 the Tigers will again travel to the Pace race at 5 p.m.
The last race for the Tigers will be October 25 at the Black Cat Invitational in Milton, Fla. at 9 a.m.
Beginning Oct. 30 the Tigers will begin their 3A sectionals in Auburn and on November 8, the Tigers will compete in the 3A state meet in Moulton at 10 a.m.
“The Azalea run along with the Gulf Coast Stampede and the Great Muddy will be great competition. We will see St. Paul's and UMS a lot this year. St. Paul's won the 5A boys last year and UMS won the 4A girls, so our competition should be good.”
