Trailing 17-14 against their biggest rival in the Iron Bowl, Brewton native Walter Lewis threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Jesse Bendross to help lead Alabama to a 28-17 win over Auburn.
The win for the Crimson Tide over Auburn in 1981 was a big win for Alabama and even a bigger win for Alabama head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.
The win was Bryant's 315 win and passed Amos Alonzo Stagg as the winningest coach in college football history.
That play and game for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team is one of a five-DVD collection of documentary films narrated by broadcaster Eli Gold.
The DVD collection features other plays like the Goal Line Stand, The Kick, Takeaway, and the Run in the Mud.
Each DVD contains about 45 minutes of extended interviews with former Crimson Tide football players and coaches.
The interview and filming of Lewis' play and game were filmed last year in Brewton at the T.R. Miller Tiger field house.
The DVD set goes on sale to the public this week. While it is yet to go on sale, Lewis said he is pleased with how the production turned out.
Grant Guffin, president of Flashlight Films, and producer of “Defining Moments: Alabama” said he enjoyed his time in Brewton and working with Lewis.
Guffin said that most Alabama fans are familiar with the legendary plays in the DVD. People know the names of the players involved, and many remember the games themselves, but he wanted to provide even deeper context-Who are these people? Where did they come from? What influences or events shaped them? What obstacles did they overcome to get the opportunity to wear the Crimson jersey? What events led up to these five or six-second windows that completely changed their lives? “People who watch these documentaries will never look at these plays or players the same way again,” Guffin said.
Trey Reynolds, Vice President, Flashlight Films, and Producer of Defining Moments: Alabama said whether someone is an Alabama football fan or not, he thinks they'll find these films enjoyable.
