Ms. Essie M. Locke Ellis, 98, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008. She was a native of Brewton and a member of Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church. She received her degree from Alabama State University and taught school 45 years in Escambia County. After retirement, she was a substitute teacher for 11 years and was an arts and crafts teacher in several summer schools. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Norma Locke Ethridge.
She is survived by her two grandsons, Leo and Cedric Ethridge of Alanta; her son-in-law, Menson Ethridge of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a number of friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 30, at 2:30 p.m. at Second Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie J. Blue officiating. Burial followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
