If Friday night's 22-21 come-from-behind win over the Escambia County Blue Devils was any indication of how T.R. Miller head coach Jamie Riggs' 20th season at Miller is going to go, fans are in for a treat.
After taking a 22-19 lead late, the Tiger defense held its ground and stopped the Blue Devils twice deep in their own territory to preserve the win.
While Riggs was pleased with the way his team performed late in the game, things were a little shaky for the Tigers to start the third quarter.
This week, the Tigers welcome new Alabama High School Athletic Association member Cottage Hill to Brewton for the first region game of the season for both teams.
Cottage Hill is in their first season of AHSAA football after playing in the Alabama Independent School Association for the last several years. Cottage Hill is coming off a 38-20 loss to Linden last week.
While Riggs said the passing game is a strength for Cottage Hill, he noted one weakness.
With this being the first region game of the season for the Tigers and other teams in the state, Riggs said that winning the first region game is always a positive.
With the Tiger offense struggling early last week against Atmore, Riggs said getting them going early will play a big decision on a win or a loss this week against Cottage Hill.
Not only is this the first region game of the season for the Tigers, Friday night will be the home opener also.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. against Cottage Hill on Friday.
