Brewton Youth Football gets opening wins

All three teams of the Brewton Youth Football League took wins in their first game of the season this past Saturday as they all defeated Navarre Maroon.
The Brewton Mini Mite team won 19-6 and the Mites won 36-0 followed by a win of 25-20 for the Brewton Midgets.
In the Brewton Mini Mite win, Brewton scored two of their touchdowns on run plays led by Austin Berrey who had 100 yards rushing. Quarterback Joshua Gunter scored on a 45-yard touchdown run.
On defense for Brewton, Toby Jenkins, Braiden Jackson, Trentez Johnson and Clifton Walker, Jr. all played an outstanding game.
In the Mites win, the mite’s offense was led by running back Markail Mitchell with two touchdowns, one was a 60-yard run and the other a 15-yard run. Tamerick Jenkin had an opening kickoff return for a touchdown that set the page of the game. Kellyn Winn had a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Middle linebacker Ah’Maud Taylor led the defense with an interception for a touchdown. Linebacker Anterio Drakeford also scored on an interception with some good help from Joseph Nance, Marcus Paul and Michael Campbell.
In the midgets win, the Brewton offense was led by running back Core Carter with two touchdowns and over 100 yards rushing.
Brewton was behind with 2:15 left to go in the game, when McHenry Coleman score one of his two touchdowns on a 2-yard run to put the Midgets ahead and take the win.
Going into the second half, Brewton was down 19-20 when the defense stood up and shutout Navarre in the half. Malik Grace, Ronald Young, Terry Samuel, Cade Castleberry and Jaylon Herbert all played well on defense.
