TRM Lady Tigers get revenge over Canes

In their first game of the season, the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger volleyball team fell to the Flomaton Lady Hurricanes.
On Thursday night at home, the Lady Tigers got revenge as they swept the Lady Hurricanes 3-0 to improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Lady Tigers took game one 25-20, game two 25-16 and game three 25-21.
One major factor in the Tigers' win was their serving. In game one, Elizabeth Nelson led with five service points. In game two, it was Nelson again who led the Lady Tigers with 10 service points and eight coming in a row. In game three, Janel McCorvey led with five service points.
In game one, the Tigers jumped out to a 7-3 and then a 10-4 lead courtesy of service points from McCorvey, Nelson, Neal and Taylor Guthrie.
After taking the six-point lead, Flomaton narrowed the lead to 14-12 and then tied the game at 15-15 and took a 16-15 lead.
With the game close, the Lady Tigers grabbed a 22-17 lead before Flomaton cut the lead to 22-20.
That would be the final points for Flomaton as Miller took the win 25-20.
In game two, Nelson guided the Lady Tigers to an 11-2 opening lead with 10 service points overall and eight coming in a row.
Flomaton then cut the lead to 12-7 and Miller took a 19-11 lead behind the serving of Leigh Margaret Bostic.
McCorvey added to the Lady Tiger lead as they closed out the game with five straight service points from McCorvey to claim the 25-16 win.
In game three, the Lady Tigers opened with a 4-0 lead courtesy of McCorvey. After Flomaton cut the lead to two, the Lady Tigers opened an 18-12 lead behind the serving of Guthrie.
Flomaton then cut the lead to 23-21, but the Lady Tigers held on for the win at 25-21.
In junior varsity action, the Lady Tigers suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to 3-1 with a 25-13 game one loss and a 25-12 game two loss to the Flomaton Hurricanes.
In game one, Flomaton built an 8-1 lead and then cruised to an 11-3 lead and a 20-10 lead en route to the 25-13 win.
In game two, Flomaton opened with an 11-1 lead and then held a 21-9 before taking the game 25-12.
In middle school action, the Lady Tigers of Brewton suffered their second straight defeat and fell to 3-2 on the season.
The Lady Tigers fell 27-25 to Flomaton in game one and 27-25 in game two.
In the first game, Karisa Nelson led the Lady Tigers with six service points followed by five from Elizabeth Althauser.
The Lady Tigers opened with a 7-3 lead and then saw their lead close to one at 13-12.
After having Flomaton at 24-21, Flomaton stormed back and tied the game and then took the win at 27-25.
In game two, the Lady tigers held an 8-3 lead only to see Flomaton come back and have a close game until the end and claim their second 27-25 win over the Lady Tigers.
The varsity Tigers will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Atmore for a 4 p.m. start.
The middle school will take on Earnest Ward Monday, Sept. 22 at home at 4 p.m. and the JV will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at home against W.S. Neal.
In earlier action in the week, the Brewton Middle School Lady Tiger volleyball lost its first game of the season Tuesday night at home dropping them to 3-1 on the season.
The Lady Tigers lost to Earnest Ward 2-0. The Lady Tigers dropped the opening set of the match 25-18 and fell in game two 25-18 also.
In game one, the Lady Tigers fell behind 8-2 before four straight service points and two aces from Elizabeth Althauser got the Tigers within one point at 7-8.
From there, Earnest Ward took a 14-8 lead and then took the win by seven.
Moriah Brundidge added three service points and an ace in the game.
In game two, the Lady Tigers opened with a 5-1 lead courtesy of four straight service points from Karisa Nelson and two aces, but Earnest Ward tied the game up and then went ahead 17-12 over the Tigers.
The Lady Tigers then closed the lead to 18-15 with two more service points from Nelson, but Earnest Ward closed out the game and took the win 25-18.

Monroe County 1
In a battle of the Lady Tigers in volleyball on Monday night, it was the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers who came away with a 3-1 varsity win and a 3-0 junior varsity win over the Monroe County Tigers in Monroeville.
With the win, the varsity improved to 3-1 on the season and the JV improved to 3-0.
The varsity Tigers defeated Monroe County 25-20 in the second set after falling 27-25 in the first set. In the third set, T.R. Miller won 25-17 and in the fourth set, T.R. Miller won 25-13.
In the JV game, the Tigers from Brewton won 25-14 and 25-18.
In JV action, Leah Brundidge had 10 service points in the first set and nine in the second to lead the Lady Tigers.
In varsity action, Brandi Kennedy had 12 service points in game one with eight coming in a row.
In game two, Kennedy led with five service points and Taylor Guthrie finished with four.
In game three, Amber Nelson had eight service points with seven in a row.
In game four, Guthrie led with 11 service points in a row.
