Billy Rankin Brackin, 82, died at his home in Semmes, Thursday, October 23, 2008, following a brief illness. He was a native of Brewton, and a resident of the Mobile area for the past sixty years. A U. S. Navy veteran, Brackin served in World War II. After forty years he retired from Montgomery Kone Elevator Company in 1988.
He was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church in Semmes. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Vivian Evans Brackin; his parents Robert Lyndell Bracken and Minnie Findley Bracken; infant sons, Billy Lamar, Thomas Michael and Carl Lee; a sister, Velma Bracken Bowman and brother-in-law, George Bowman.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry (David) Hardy of Chunchula; one son, Kenneth (Teresa) Brackin of Semmes; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two sisters, Gwen (Bobby) Bardwell and Bobbie (Buddy) Herrington, both of Brewton.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Charles Couey at Indian Springs Baptist Church on Monday, October 27, at 11 a.m. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Gardens in Semmes with Valhalla Funeral Home directing.
