After Friday night's 42-6 win over Dale County in the opening round of the class 3A state playoffs, the T.R. Miller Tigers seem prepared to make a run in the state playoffs.
The Tigers, 11-0 this season and ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, totaled 562 yards of offense to just 114 for the Warriors.
T.R. Miller head coach Jamie Riggs said his team - which had a 35-0 lead at halftime - did a good job, especially considering they played arch-rival W.S. Neal the previous week.
If the Tigers are to continue advancing toward the championship game, they must be able to get by Slocomb, this week's second-round opponent and owners of a 9-2 season record.
Slocomb enters their contest with T.R. Miller on Friday after defeating Straughn 46-14. T.R. Miller beat Straughn 49-35 during the regular season.
The only other game the opponents have in common is T.R. Miller's 42-6 win over Dale County last week. Slocomb defeated Dale County 21-14.
The Red Tops own a 6-0 record at home this season and are 3-2 on the road. T.R. Miller is 6-0 at home and 5-0 on the road this season.
The Tigers and Red Tops have only met on the field in 2004 and 2005, when they were both in the same region. T.R. Miller defeated Slocomb 35-21 in 2004 before falling in 2005 at home 16-14.
The two running backs are No. 14 Scottie Burdeshaw and No. 10 Jermaine “Juicy” Williams.
Burdeshaw rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns against Straughn, while Williams had 183 yards and three touchdowns.
While stopping the Slocomb run game seems to be a must for the Tigers, Riggs said that the Slocomb defense plays well also.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
