Well, the T.R. Miller Tiger football team lives on to play another game after their 34-6 win over the Slocomb Red Tops Friday night in Brewton.
T.R. Miller is now the lone region one representative from the playoffs after Daleville defeated Luverne 17-6.
As of right now in the 3A classification brackets, regions four and region five are tied with two of their four teams still left in the playoffs.
All other regions have teams left except regions three and six.
All the top-ranked teams in the region are left except in region three, region six, and region eight.
Those teams' top region winners fell Friday night. Region three's top-ranked team Dadeville fell to region four's No. 2 team Gordo.
Susan Moore in region six fell to region five's No. 2 team Piedmont and in region eight, Elkmont fell to region eight's No. 3 team Colbert County.
Speaking of Colbert County, they are the only team left in the 3A brackets who is not a one seed or a two seed.
Of the current teams in all classfications, 13 of them still have a chance to complete their season undefeated.
There are two teams still perfect in 1A (Brantly and Linden), three in 2A (Leroy, Clay County, and Tanner), three in 3A (T.R. Miller, Leeds, and Hamilton), one in 4A (Cherokee County), three in 5A (Vigor, Carver Montgomery, and Hartselle) and one in 6A (Auburn).
T.R. Miller has had only four teams in their football history to go undefeated.
The 1994 team is the most recent. That team went 15-0 for the Tigers, the only 15-0 team in T.R. Miller Tiger history.
Just three seasons prior, the 1991 T.R. Miller team went 14-0.
The other two T.R. Miller Tiger teams to go undefeated in a season were the first state championship team in T.R. Miller history, the 1969 team. That team went 11-0.
Also, the 1941 team went undefeated with an 8-0 record.
On a different note, come out to W.S. Neal High School on Tuesday an watch the 2008-2009 W.S. Neal basketball teams kick off their seasons.
The Eagles will take on the Excel Panthers on Tuesday with the B team boys beginning play at 4:30 p.m.
Both the Lady Eagle basketball teams and the varisty Eagle teams will have new coaches this season. A preview of the two teams will be in The Brewton Standard soon.
I want to wish all a great week and until we meet again here or out in the world of sports, God bless.
