W.S. Neal Middle falls to Escambia Middle

The W.S. Neal Middle School Lady Eagles dropped their first game and the boys remained winless after both teams fell to Escambia County Middle School Thursday night at home.
The Lady Eagles dropped to 2-1 with a 26-21 loss.
The W.S. Neal Middle Schoo boys fell to 0-3 with a 35-20 loss.
In the girls game, Arianna Jones led the Lady Eagles with 10 points in the loss followed by five points from Mariah Davis.
Escambia County held a 7-1 lead over the Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal in the first quarter, but W.S. Neal got eight points in the second quarter and held Escambia County to just two to tie the game at 9-9 at the half.
Jones, Tiana Smith, Shyler Dees all scored in the quarter.
In the third quarter, Escambia County opened the game with an 8-0 run to claim a 16-9 lead, but Jones scored all six points in the quarter for W.S. Neal to cut the lead to 20-15 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, W.S. Neal cut the lead to 20-17 when Smith connected for two points, but Escambia County went ahead 24-17 with 2:27 left in the game and held on for the 26-21 win.
In the boys game, after falling behind 4-0 early in the first quarter, W.S. Neal tied the game at 6-6 and at 8-8 and trailed 9-8 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Escambia County went on an 8-0 run to grab a 23-10 lead over the Eagles, but Dylan Godwin scored with 13 seconds left to go in the half for the Eagles as W.S. Neal trailed 23-12 at the half.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal was held to only three points from Jeremy Myers as Escambia County poured in eight points to go up 31-12.
Myers's three pointer cut the lead to 31-15 with 1:02 left in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, W.S. Neal got five points to Escambia County's four in the quarter, but fell in the game 35-20.
Trevor Burns led W.S. Neal with nine points followed by six from Marquese Banks.
W.S. Neal will be back in action on Monday at home when they take on Carver at 5 p.m.
The girls teams will play first and the boys game will be played immediately after the girl's game is complete.
