Jesus' sermons often spoke of feeding the hungry. The Healing of the Soul outreach group of The Divine Temple church are following that example.
The group of volunteers will be preparing to feed up to 200 people Thursday as a Thanksgiving feast is presented.
Byrd said her group will be preparing everything needed to complete a traditional holiday meal.
The planned feast is expected to serve up to 200 people, Byrd said.
Greer said the people who feasted on the holiday meal last year gave the group hope and promise that the ministry they were undertaking was needed and appreciated.
Greer said the desire to serve those in need throughout the year intensified as the holiday approached.
Byrd said several volunteers make the ministry a reality through donations and preparation and delivery of the food.
Greer said last year's outreach holiday meal reached more than just Brewton area residents.
The group plans to begin serving the Thanksgiving meal from their portable kitchen by 11 a.m. Thanksgiving day. They will be located next to Speedy Lube on Douglas Avenue.
Greer said this is one way the church can serve God's children.
