Mr. Frank Alex Luttrell Jr, 82, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at a local hospital. He was a native and longtime resident of Brewton, and a former resident of Blountstown, Fla. He graduated from Marion Military Institute in 1944, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the end of World War II. He attended the University of Alabama where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and graduated in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in commerce. He returned to Brewton and began a career as a forest products salesman at T.R. Miller Mill Co., Mauk Forest Products and McGinnis Lumber Co. He was very active in the Brewton community, serving in numerous positions in the Boy Scouts organization, Brewton Rotary Club (past president) and Brewton First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Brewton Tree and Beautification Board. He enjoyed photography and sharing his tomatoes, lettuce and other vegetables from his garden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Alex Luttrell and Bessie Cushman Padgett; and a brother, James Padgett Luttrell.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Catherine “Kitty” Buck Lutrell of Brewton; three sons, Frank Alex (Shelaine) Luttrell III of Huntsville, Dr. Joseph Buck (Jenny) Luttrell of Birmingham and Stephen Oden (Dawn) Luttrell of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren, Claire Heath Luttrell, Anna-Laura Catherine Luttrell, Frank Alex “Ford” Luttrell IV, Stephen Joseph Luttrell, and Robert Andrew Luttrell; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Fay Luttrell of Brewton; a brother-in-law, Joe (Marilyn) Buck of Savannah and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 11:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Dr. Ed Glaize and the Rev. Joseph A. Buck IV officiating. A private family burial followed at Union Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were his nephews, James Padgett Luttrell Jr., Thomas Alex Luttrell, Robert Mayo Luttrell, William Luttrell Moore, Robert Hudson Moore, and James Tyler Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Robert E. Low, John Richard Miller Jr., Charles Northcutt, Joe Gordy and members of the Brewton Rotary Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Boy Scouts of America or a charity of your choice.
