Members of the Brewton Tree and Beautification Committee had hoped to be able to renovate the City Park this year, the centennial of the downtown greenspace near the Escambia County Courthouse.
Some budget problems with the plans have delayed the project, but the renovation is on track to begin next year, Beautification Committee Chairman Joe Gordy told the Brewton City Council Tuesday.
An anonymous donor has agreed to fund the project up to $400,000, Gordy said.
Gordy asked the council if the city would be willing to help fund the rpoject if it goes over budget again, although he does not expect to need any more money.
The council agreed but did not set an amount the city could contribute if it is necessary.
The park will still have a clock tower, a new gazebo and a fountain. The gazebo currently at the park will be relocated to the airport.
Once work begins, likely after the holidays, the park renovations could take four to five months.
