Mr. Virgil Spivey, 95, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008. He was a native of Geneva County, and a resident of Brewton for 33 years, before moving to Fairhope in 1979. He was a veteran of World War II serving in Cold Bay, Alaska. He was a 1939 art major graduate of the University of Alabama. While in Brewton he served the longest mail route in the United States, retiring in 1975. After moving to Fairhope, he was actively involved in the Fairhope United Methodist Church, Eastern Shore Art Center and numerous civil and social groups. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Burgess Spivey.
He is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Tom) Key, of Decatur, Ga., and three grandsons, Simon, Stephen and Charlie Key.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m. from Fairhope United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Colony Cemetery with Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Homes and Crematory directing. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to Ecumenical Ministries.
