Joe Max Blair, 79, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Pike County, he was a native and long-time resident of Brewton after living in Bellevue, Wash., for many years. He began his working career as a reporter for The Brewton Standard. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a processing manager. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Escambia Rabbit Breeders Association and operated BH Farms for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford Ray and Ida Register Blair.
He is survived by one brother, Ernest “Buddy” Blair of Bakersfield, Calif.; three sisters, Lee Ellington of Pace, Fla., Francis King of Cantonment, Fla., and Gladys Wilson of Brewton; and a special friend, Donald Mullins of Brewton; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home Sunday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the Ridge Road Baptist Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
