Brenda Kern knows that every dollar counts when it comes to cancer research.
Her efforts on behalf of the East Escambia Relay For Life event - which raises money for the American Cancer Society - earned her recognition recently from the organization.
Faircloth was on hand when Kern was presented with the Community Income Development Volunteer of the Year award during a recent ACS event.
GP will be the title sponsor for the April 2009 event.
Faircloth said Kern's work on the Georgia-Pacific team has certainly helped keep the event alive and has even put new life into Relay for the Brewton area.
Kern has been a part of Relay for Life activities for many of the 14 years the event has been held, Faircloth said.
Kern said she pushes for sponsorships and other fund raising activities because of the importance of what Relay for Life helps to accomplish.
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service.
