BMS gets wins

Both the boys and girls basketball team from Brewton Middle School improved their records during the week with wins over Jay Middle School and Earnest Ward.
With the wins, the Lady Tigers improved to 3-3 after picking up their second wins in as many games and the Brewton Middle School boys team improved to 4-2 with their second win in as many games.
On Thursday, Brewton will take on W.S. Neal Middle School in East Brewton at 4 p.m.
BMS Boys 39, Jay Middle 28
Mark Bryant scored 18 points to lead Brewton Middle School to an 11-point win over Jay, 39-28.
Brewton led 8-4 after the first quarter and outscored Jay 13-9 in the second quarter to claim a 21-13 halftime lead.
In the second half, Jay outscored Brewton 9-8 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 30-22, but in the fourth quarter Brewton outscored Jay 10-6 to claim the 39-28 win.
Dominique Jackson added eight points in the win for Brewton as they improved to 3-2 for the season.

Earnest Ward 26
In a close game Tuesday night at Earnest Ward, the Brewton Middle School Tigers claimed a two-point win to improve to 4-2.
Brewton led 8-3 at the end of the first quarter, but was outscored 9-7 in the second to still hold a 15-12 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Brewton was against outscored 9-7 but held a 22-21 lead after three quarters of play.
In the fourth and final quarter of play, Brewton outscored Earnest Ward 6-5 to escape with a 28-26 win.
Bryant led the Brewton Middle School Tigers with 13 points and Caleb Hubbard followed with eight in the win.
BMS girls 21, Jay 11
After only leading 10-6 at the half, the Brewton Middle School Lady Tigers outscored Jay 9-2 in the third quarter to claim 19-8 lead en route to a 21-11 win over the Jay Lady Royals.
Jasmine Montgomery led Brewton with six points and Audrey Hamric finished with four to lead Brewton.
Brewton led 8-4 after the first quarter and after a 2-2 tie in the second quarter, led 10-6 at the half.
After the 9-2 outscoring in the third quarter, Brewton led 19-8. Jay outscored Brewton 3-2 in the fourth quarter, but the damage had already been done as Brewton went on for the win.
BMS 22, Earnest Ward 16
Just like in the boys game, the Brewton Middle School Lady Tigers and Earnest Ward played a tight game Tuesday night.
Both teams scored four points each in the first and second quarters to have an 8-8 tie at the half.
In the third quarter, Brewton outscored Earnest Ward 8-6 to claim a 16-14 lead. But in the fourth quarter, Brewton outscored Earnest Ward 6-2 to claim a 22-16 lead and take the win.
Courtney Carter led Brewton with eight points and Destanie Durrell, Keana Thomas and Lauren Bradley all scored four points in the win.
