Council rezones two parcels in city

Following a pair of public hearings, Brewton city council members agreed to rezone two parcels of property located inside the city limits.
One parcel on South Boulevard was rezoned from a residential status to business status.
Steve Yuhasz, director of the City Planning Commission, said the property is located on South Boulevard near Church Street. The purpose of the rezoning request is in preparation of a Badcock Furniture store being built in the location.
The area is adjacent to a residential area and Yuhasz said a buffer zone is required between business and residential zones.
After a second public hearing, the council approved the rezoning of a parcel of property on Douglas Avenue from a residential/agricultural zone to a general business zone.
With no opposition on the request, the council unanimously agreed to rezone the area to a business district parcel.
