The Brewton local area swim team, the BMAC Brewton Geckos, recently attended the Montgomery YMCA Barracudas Buckmaster Invitational Swim Meet in Montgomery.
The meet was a USA Swimming sanctioned event with over 450 swimmers in attendance from all over the Southeast.
The BMAC Geckos coached by Angel Boyd took 11 swimmers from the Brewton area.
Swimmers in attendance were Anna Brown, Lane Clark, Nelson Martin, Sailor Smith, Leslie Holmes, Taylor Austin, Allie Nelson, Stone Martin, Brittany Warren, Sam Terry and Gage Parker.
Anna Brown placed in the top five overall in her age group (11-12 girls), finishing third overall in the 50-free and the 50-backstroke.
Brown also made her time standard cuts in both of the events, qualifying her for the Southeastern Championships in Nashville, Tenn. in March of 2009.
Stone Martin finished as the fastest 6-year-old.
Lane Clark finished in the top 7 overall for the 10 and under boys in the 200-yard freestyle.
Also finishing in the top 10 in their respective age groups were Lane Clark, Sam Terry, Allie Nelson, Gage Parker, and Taylor Austin.
Finishing in the top-16 overall in their respective age groups were Leslie Holmes, Sailor Smith (who finished in the top 2 girls in the 6 and under group), Brittany Warren and Nelson Martin.
The team currently practices Monday-Thursday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Brewton Area YMCA.
