The Rev. Wallace Glen Reid, 73, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, in Century. He was a native and lifelong resident of Century. He owned and operated Reid's Service Center and Gas Station at Century for 17 years. He was the founder and pastor of the Gospel Light Temple Church for 31 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Reid and Claudia Gilmore Beauchamp; a sister, Thelma Reid; and a grandchild, Christopher Bell.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Bush Reid of Century; four sons, Ricky Pritchett of Mobile, Joseph Reid and Lonnie Purvis, both of Century, and and Glen Reid of Bluff Springs, Fla.; eight daughters, Claudia Tuberville of Mobile, Joy Simpson and Margaret Reid, both of Century, Regina Purvis of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Elaine Purvis of Pensacola, Fla., Tammy Hodges of Cantonment, Fla., Robin Salter of Flomaton, and Amanda Merritt of Blue Springs; three brothers, Douglas Reid of Flomaton, Larry Reid of Barrineau Park, Fla., and Ralph Reid of Pace, Fla.; five sisters, Glenda Peacock and Rene Spencer, both of Brandon, Fla., Peggy Clemans of Lakeland, Fla., Shelia Wooten of Molino, Fla., and Sherry Majors of Cottage Hill, Fla.; 26 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. He will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. until the funeral.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Gospel Light Temple Church with the Rev. Ron Day, the Rev. Bobby Carnley, and the Rev. James Gay officiating. Burial will follow at Byrneville Methodist Cemetery with Petty Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Pritchett Jr., Johnathan Holland, Travis Holland, B.J. Reid, Dave Reid and Jeremy Pritchett.
The family will accept flowers or donations can be made to be used to construct a new pastor's office at Gospel Light Temple.
