Finding the real reason for the season is what churches in the Brewton area are willing to help others do this holiday season.
Many churches have already presented a variety of Christmas musicals, cantatas, dramas and other holiday services.
Some churches will be presenting musical or dramatic programs today and tonight as part of their holiday celebration.
The East Brewton Church of the Nazarene will have a youth presentation during morning services today that begin at 10:50 a.m.
Beginning at 6 p.m. this evening, the Appleton First Assembly of God will have a children's presentation of a dramatic holiday story. “It's A Wonder-Full Life,” will be presented by the children of the church beginning at 6 p.m.
Several churches in the area will be holding special services Christmas Eve and Christmas morning.
The Appleton Assembly of God Church will be hosting a special prayer service Christmas Eve beginning at 6 p.m.
Brewton's First Baptist Church will hold vespers and celebrate the Lord's Supper on Dec. 24 beginning at 6 p.m.
Other Christmas Eve services include a special candlelight service at the North Brewton Baptist Church beginning at 5 p.m.
St. Stephens Episcopal Church will have their annual children's Christmas pageant beginning at 5 p.m. followed by Holy Eucharist. The church will also hold a special candlelight service beginning at 11 p.m. with Holy Eucharist and musical presentations. The choir of Christ Kingdome Ministry Center in Brewton will be presenting special musical selections during the 11 p.m. service.
Also, on Christmas Eve, the First United Methodist Church in Brewton will have a come and go community service from 5 to 6:15 p.m. A special candlelight service will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m.
One church reported plans for a Christmas morning service. Located on Old Hwy. 31 just south of Brewton, Catawba Springs Baptist Church will offer an opportunity to worship to anyone who desires to attend.
“We will have our annual Christmas morning service,” Catawba Springs Baptist Church pastor Jeff Edwards said. “It will be a brief service of about 30 or 45 minutes. This is a special thing for us and everyone seems to enjoy the service on Christmas morning.”
The Christmas morning service at Catawba Springs will begin at 9:30 a.m., Dec. 25.
