Mr. John Etheldred Franklin Jr., 81, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at a local hospital after a brief illness. He was a native and former resident of Birmingham, before moving to Brewton 56 years ago. He was a graduate of Troy State University with a bachelor's degree. He was retired from Monsanto and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geralldine Franklin.
He is survived by two daughters, Johnnie Clyde (John) Boyd and Geraldine Franklin, both of Brewton; a sister, Patsy Cadden of South Carolina; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m. at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Larry Watts officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
