It's cookie time again and members of the Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama will be knocking on doors selling the cookies to friends and relatives beginning Friday, Jan. 9, 2009.
Girl Scouts in the Brewton area will be among thousands of girls across the region who will be taking orders for the popular cookies.
Liz Brent, Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama's chief executive officer said girls involved in taking orders will learn more than selling cookies during the sale period.
Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls manage inventory, set goals, learn money management, and develop marketing skills.
Brent also said many women have credited their business skills to the Girl Scout Cookie Program, making it the premier business and economic literacy program for girls in the United States.”
Proceeds from the cookie sale also go to support programs for girls and training for volunteers across the area, Brent said.
Girls in the Brewton area will begin to sell the cookies Friday, Jan. 9.
Cookies are $3.50 per box. All proceeds benefit the the Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama, which includes Escambia County.
The cookie sale has been a famous annual event that helps girls develop their leadership qualities since 1917.
The variety of cookies this year include Thin Mints, Samoas, Dulce de Leches, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Lemon Chalet Cremes and sugar-free chocolate chip cookies.
The last day of sale will be March 8, 2009. Contact any member or leader of the Girl Scout program to order your cookies.
