WSN varsity splits, now 10-6

The W.S. Neal High School varsity Eagle basketball team split their past two games making their record 10-6 on the season.
The varsity Eagles defeated Northview 62-31 at home to improve to 10-5 and then dropped a 55-21 loss to UMS-Wright in Mobile in an area game. The loss to the Bulldogs dropped W.S. Neal to 10-6 and to 0-1 in area play.
The Eagles were set to take on Jackson at home Tuesday in another area game. The Eagles will be back in action Friday against B.C. Rain. The game will be an area game for both schools.
Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. with the B teams squaring off.
W.S. Neal varsity 62, Northview 31
Leading only by three points at the half against the Northview Chiefs, the W.S. Neal Eagles outscored Northview 24-4 in the third quarter en route to a 31-point win, 62-31.
The Eagles led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored Northview 12-11 in the second quarter to hold a 23-20 lead at the half.
After the 24-4 run in the third quarter, the Eagles outscored Northview 15-7 in the final quarter of play to win by 31 points.
Three Eagles finished in double figures for the Eagles with Jeremy Nicholson leading the Eagles with 17 points.
Chris Payne followed with 12 points in the win and Rashad Crook chipped in 11 points.
William Shell added six points in the win for the Eagles.
UMS-Wright 55,
W.S. Neal 21
In the first area game of the season for the Eagles, UMS-Wright outscored the Eagles 37-8 in the second half after a five-point lead at halftime to defeat the Eagles 55-21 in Mobile.
The loss dropped W.S. Neal to 10-6 overall and 0-1 in area play.
Both teams scored nine points in the opening quarter of play as the first quarter ended 9-9.
In the second quarter, UMS-Wright held a 9-4 advantage in the quarter to hold an 18-13 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, UMS-Wright held the Eagles to only two points while scoring 13 to grab a 31-15 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs outscored W.S. Neal 24-6 to claim the area win by 34 points.
Sam Ewing and Kendrick Floyd each scored six points in the loss for the Eagles.
Shell added three points and Nicholson, Bob Elliott and Jeremy Alexander added two points for the Eagles in the loss to UMS-Wright.
