Lady Tigers improve to 11-2

The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers improved to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the area with recent wins over Choctaw County and Bayside.
The Lady Tigers defeated Choctaw County 64-20 in Butler and Bayside 40-19 in Brewton Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers were set to be back in action on Friday when they traveled to Mobile to take on Cottage Hill in another area game.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday at home when they take on rival W.S. Neal.
T.R. Miller 40, Bayside 19
With all the weapons the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers use to defeat their opponents, they added another weapon to the cause Tuesday night at home in an area game against the Bayside Academy Lady Admirals - the 3-pointer.
The Lady Tigers connected for six 3-pointers in the first three quarters to improve to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in area play when they defeated Bayside Academy 40-19.
Senior Ashley Williams had three of the Lady Tigers' six 3-pointers as she led the Lady Tigers with 13 points in the win. Nakiya Smith finished with nine points and Janel McCorvey had four points in the win.
Jackson said that if felt good to be sitting at 2-0 in the area right now, but it is still a long season left to play.
In the game Tuesday night against Bayside Academy, the Lady Tigers took an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter before the Lady Admirals got on the board with their first points at the 1:35 mark.
Already leading 6-1, Nakiya Smith added a late basket for the Lady Tigers to give T.R. Miller an 8-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Tigers continued on their run in the second quarter and made it a 7-0 run as Williams connected for her second 3-pointer of the game to give the Lady Tigers a 13-1 lead with 6:09 left in the half.
The Lady Tigers built a 19-7 lead after two consecutive 3-pointers by Leah Brundidge and Zykeya Barton, but a 4-0 run to end the quarter for the Lady Admirals cut the lead to 19-11 at the half.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers benefited from a 7-0 run to build a 28-13 lead with 4:34 left in the quarter.
Williams netted her third 3-pointer and the teams fifth in the run as the Lady Tigers allowed only four points in the quarter and held a 32-15 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers put together a 6-0 run to hold a 40-16 with 5:03 left to play.
That would be the final points of the game for T.R. Miller as Bayside would add just four points to close within 21 points, but T.R. Miller would hang on for the win 40-19.
T.R. Miller Lady Tigers 64, Choctaw County 20
The Lady Tigers cruised to a 64-20 win over Choctaw County in the area opener to pick up their third straight win and improve to 10-2 and 1-0 in the area.
The Lady Tigers led 19-4 after the first quarter and improved their lead to 36-12 at the half with a 17-8 scoring advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers extended their lead in the third quarter with an 18-7 scoring advantage to claim a 54-19 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers outscored Choctaw County 10-1 to claim the 44-point win, 64-20.
Nakiya Smith led the Lady Tigers with 15 points and was one of three Lady Tigers in double figures.
Janel McCorvey finished with 11 points in the win and Kesha Peterson finished with 10 points.
Catherine Green chipped in seven points followed by six from Shaniqua Kiser and five from Ashley Williams.
