A D.W. McMillan Hospital employee was chosen to be one of 10 Southwest Alabama hospital employees honored for their dedication to the health care industry recently.
A luncheon was held in their honor at USA Children's &Women's Hospital in Mobile.
Tonja Thompson, LPN, education and human resources assistant, D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital was chosen as one of the top 10 health care workers in the state and was honored at the celebration.
The celebration was hosted by the Southwest Alabama Regional Hospital Council of the Alabama Hospital Association (AlaHA).
In her honor, comments were made by officials at the ceremony praising Thompson's work ethic and dedication.
Thompson regularly visits elderly diabetic patients with her director to provide education, and she assists in recycling certain wound care supplies to give to indigent families.
Thompson also monitors blood pressure for individuals to help them stay healthy and avoid hospitalization. She is a nurse who has worked in many areas of the hospital and is highly respected by her peers.
Her peers describe her as having an unwavering character, someone who is warm, caring and a terrific coach for other employees.
Basically, Thompson is known as the “go to” person at the hospital.
In fact, when employees don't see Thompson, they are often overheard saying they won't return until she does.
As Thompson was honored, She's cherished as an extremely valuable employee who devotes herself to the hospital and its patients.”
The luncheon is one of seven regional awards presentations being held in January as part of the association
