TRM hoops beat CHHS

In their opening round game of the class 3A area 1 boys basketball tournament at Choctaw County High School in Butler Friday night, the T.R. Miller varsity Tiger basketball team picked up a 57-55 win over Cottage Hill.
The win improved the Tigers to 5-15 overall and places them in the championship game Monday night against Choctaw County.
Also with the win, T.R. Miller will advance to the sub state area round of the playoffs next week either as the area champion with a win Monday or the area runner up.
The Tigers, with a win, will host the Slocomb-Geneva loser in area two or will travel to the winner.
In the game Friday, T.R. Miller trailed 15-14 after the first quarter, but claimed a 31-27 lead at the half with a 17-12 advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Cottage Hill battled back with a 19-15 advantage to tie the game at 46-46 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, T.R. Miller outscored the Warriors 11-9 to claim the two-point win.
Corey Redfearn led the Tigers with 18 points followed by 16 from Derrick Riley.
Joe McCorvey had eight points and Terez Lane tallied six. Justin Payne chipped in three points and Wes Dickey and Matt Lane added two points in the win.
