The T.R. Miller Lady Tiger basketball team claimed another area championship Saturday night at home with a 48-21 win over Bayside Academy.
With the win, the Lady Tigers improved to 21-2 with their 14 straight win and will host Straughn Thursday at home at 6 p.m.
T.R. Miller led a closely matched first quarter 13-10 and then used an 8-0 run and a 7-0 run in the second quarter to outscored Bayside 12-2 to hold a 25-12 lead at the half.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers outscored Bayside 8-2 in the third quarter and 17-7 in the second quarter and ended the game on a 10-0 run to claim the 27-point win.
Zykeya Barton led the Lady Tigers with 12 points and was joined in double figures by Kesha Peterson with 11 points and Nakiya Smith with 10 points.
Keydra Shedrone chipped in seven points and Catherine Green added five points. Ashley Williams added three points.
Green, Smith, Peterson, Barton and Shedrone all made the all-tournament team for the Lady Tigers.
Jackson said he was as happy as he could be to get the area championship win.
Early on things looked like a repeat of the Choctaw County game on Thursday. The Lady Tiger used their press defense and forced some early turnovers and took an early 6-0 lead at the 5:53 mark.
From there, Bayside cut the lead to 8-6 and tied the game at 10-10 with 9.3 seconds left to play in the first quarter but Zykeya Barton nailed a 3-pointer as time expired to put the Lady Tigers up 13-10.
The Barton 3-pointer seemed to take the life out of Bayside in the second and third quarters as T.R. Miller outscored Bayside 20-4 in the two quarters.
Counting back to the Barton 3-pointer to end the first quarter, the Lady Tigers went on an 8-0 run to grab an 18-10 lead with 6:13 left to play and then ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to hold a 25-12 lead at the half.
Bayside grabbed the first points of the third quarter, but that was all the points the Lady Admirals would get as the Lady Tigers went on another 8-0 run to grab a 33-14 at the end of the third quarter of play.
In the fourth quarter, it was another run for the Lady Tigers that put the game totally out of reach.
After having their lead cut to 38-21 with 3:22 left to play, the Lady Tigers ended the game on a 10-0 run and run and win 48-21.
