JDCC baseball gets win

The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday at home against Gulf Coast and then lost to Jefferson State Thursday at home.
JDCC defeated Gulf Coast 13-12 to improve to 1-1, but dropped a 9-1 loss to Jeff State to fall to 1-2.
JDCC was set to take on Lawson State today at home at noon after rescheduling their game from Saturday due to weather conditions.
JDCC will travel to Huntingdon on Monday for their first road game of the season. JDCC will take on Huntingdon in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
JDCC will be back home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against Jones Community College.
JDCC 13, Gulf Coast 12
Tuesday’s baseball game for the Jefferson Davis Warhawk baseball team was a game of ups and downs.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, JDCC scored four runs in the third inning and six in the fourth inning to hold a 10-2 lead.
From there, Gulf Coast scored three runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 10-5 and then another three runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 10-8.
JDCC then added a run to hold an 11-8 lead but fell to two runs in the eighth and ninth innings to fall behind 12-11 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.
JDCC benefited from two singles, a Gulf Coast error and a wild pitch to score the winning runs and win 13-12 to pick up their first win of the season.
Ryne Phillips led JDCC in just about everything in the win.
Phillips was 4-for-5 at the plate with a homerun and two RBIs and picked up the win on the mound in relief.
Phillips earned the win on the mound with just 1/3 of an inning.
Trent Smith was 2-for-4 with a triple as the two teams pounded out 32 hits between them with JDCC having 12.
Ben Blodgett was 1-for-4 with three RBIs and Hunter Norris was 2-for-2.
Sean Little was 1-for-5 with a double.
Taylor Register was 1-for-3 in the win for JDCC.
Shane Ikner got the start on the mound for the Warhawks. He went three innings and allowed two runs on three hits and walked five and struck out four in the no decision.
Derek Lowry relieved Ikner and went two and 1/3 innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on three hits.
Kyle Wyatt relieved Lowery and went 2/3 of an inning and allowed one run on three hits.
Hunter Brown relieved Wyatt in the top of the seventh inning and allowed fours runs on 10 hits in two and 2/3 of an inning.
Phillips relieved Brown with two outs in the top of the ninth and got the final out of the inning and picked up the win after JDCC scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to win 13-12.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning, JDCC loaded the bases with no outs in the inning aided by two Gulf Coast errors and scored four runs to claim a 4-2 lead.
JDCC made it a 10-2 lead with six runs in the fourth inning after a leadoff triple by Smith.
Register scored Smith with a single and then three straight hits from Little, Phillips and Norris gave JDCC a 7-2 lead with just one out in the inning.
Cody Sanderson then sacrificed in a run for JDCC as the Warhawks held a 10-2 lead after four innings of play.
JDCC would only get one run in the next four innings while Gulf Coast picked up eight runs to cut the lead to 11-10 heading into the top of the ninth inning.
In the top of the ninth inning, Gulf Coast picked up a single and a two-run homerun to claim a 12-11 lead over the Warhawks.
In the bottom of the ninth inning for JDCC, Norris led the inning off with a single and was pinch run for by Terry McClain.
C.J. Moorer singled to place runners at first and second with no outs.
With no outs, Gulf Coast had an error and a passed ball to tie the game at 12-12 and put runners on second and third with one out.
From there, Harry Haring was sent to pinch hit for Smith and picked up the game winning RBI after a passed ball scored Moorer to give JDCC a 13-12 win.
Jefferson State 9, JDCC 1
After an exciting come-from-behind win two days earlier against Gulf Coast, JDCC suffered a 9-1 loss to Jefferson State Thursday at home to fall to 1-2 overall.
Jeff State used a four-run fourth inning and then scored a run in the fifth inning and two each in the sixth and seventh innings to hold a 9-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
JDCC got a run in the bottom of the second innings after a leadoff double by Reid Wynn who advanced to third on a Jeff State error.
Clarence Moorer then scored Wynn with a fielder’s choice, but that was all the runs for the Warhawks in the eight-run loss.
Michael Clay picked up the loss on the mound for JDCC. Clay went three and 1/3 innings and allowed four runs (two earned runs) on two hits and walked four and struck out four.
Clay breezed through the first three innings, but gave up one hit and three walks in the fourth inning that loaded the bases.
Josh Benton relieved Clay and went three innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits and struck out three.
Phillips relieved Benton and went 2/3 of an inning and allowed one earned run.
Hunter Norris relieved Phillips and had a strikeout in one inning of work.
Derek Young went the final inning of the game for JDCC.
Moorer led JDCC at the plate with a 1-for-4 day and the lone RBI.
Wynn was 1-for-3 with a double in the loss for JDCC.
Ben Negus was 1-for-3 and Hunter Norris was 2-for-4.
Taylor Register was 1-for-3 and Chance Lawrence was 1-for-2 in the loss.
