Ms. Sallie Mae King, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009. She was a native of Conecuh County and a resident of Escambia County since 1936. She was a member of Second Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lumon King; her parents, Hugh and Mattie Samuel; a daughter, Martha Jean; a grandson, Gary “Chubby” Richardson; a sister, Marjorie Jackson and four brothers, Hugh Jr., Lewis, Quittman and James “Bill” and a god-daughter, Willia Jean Jackson.
She is survived by her daughters, Edna (Rev. John) Hodoh, Marianetta (Donald) Williams, and Willodean Thomas, all of Brewton, Mary (Arthur) Drayton and Sandra (Barry) Robinson, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Evelyn (Edward) Dawson of Enterprise; her sons, Carlton King, William (Debra) King, both of Brewton, and Ray (Valorie) King of Oxnard, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Elder Aaron (Annie) Samuel, Edward (Ethel) Samuel, Arnold (Elizabeth) Samuel, Bernice Snowden, Arithia Marshall, Roberta Floyd, Lillie (Rev. Hosea) Edwards, Gladys (Elder Willie) Williams, E. Sue (Willie) Vines and Faye (Sammie) Ball; three sisters-in-law, Claraleen Green, Louise Travis, and Betty Jones; three brothers-in-law, Charles King, John B. (Bama) King and Leroy Jones and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. at Second Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Cartez Hall officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery wth Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
