Neal gets no-hitter in opener

Not only did the W.S. Neal Eagles start out their 2009 season with a win Monday night at home, they started out the season with a 10-0 10-run rule win with a combined pitching no-hitter.
Seniors William Shell and Tyler Cross combined to get the six inning no-hit with Shell getting the win.
The duo combined for 15 strikeouts out of 20 batters with only two Florala players getting on base via an error and a walk.
Cross led W.S. Neal at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and an inside-the-park homerun.
Shell was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Jake Cannon was 3-3 for with two doubles, a single and two RBIs.
W.S. Neal scored one run in the first inning, two in the third inning and seven in the sixth inning to claim the win.
Reid Johnson, Christian Purvis, and Keith Bradley all had singles and an RBI. Taylor Cash had a single in the win.
W.S. Neal will be back in action on Thursday in Flomaton for the Escambia County tournament.
W.S. Neal and Escambia County will begin the tournament at 4 p.m. with T.R. Miller and Flomaton playing at 6 p.m.
On Friday, Escambia County and Flomaton will start things off at 4 p.m. with T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal playing at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, T.R. Miller will take on Escambia County at noon to start things off with W.S. Neal and Flomaton concluding the tournament.
In JV action against Florala, the W.S. Neal Eagles scored in every inning and claimed a 15-1 win to get their first win of the season.
Joseph Strength got the win on the mound for the Eagles going two innings. Hayden Cooper and Dylan Godwin pitched in relief in the game.
The JV Eagles pounded out 18 hits in the win and scored two runs in the first inning, four in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth to win 15-1.
Monterrius Culliver had two singles for the Eagles and Tyler Sawyer had a single.
Gary McGraw added a double and an RBI and Damien Williams had a single and a double and two RBIs in the win.
Taylor Ballard had two singles and two RBIs and Hayden Cooper had two RBIs.
Brian Settle added a single and an RBI. Hunter Mullins had two singles and two RBIs.
Cam Easterling added a single and an RBI and Cam Blackman had two singles and an RBI.
Josh Thompkins and Tyler Joyner both had singles and Thompkins had one RBI in the win.
