Don Lucas is looking for ways to boost Brewton’s economy — by attracting retirees to the area.
Lucas, a member of Brewton’s Alabama Communities of Excellence economic development committee, recently attended a retirement expo in Gulf Shores to provide information about Brewton.
The expo, whose purpose was to promote a healthy quality of life for people over 50, included exhibits demonstrating people, places and products of interest to that population segment.
Lucas said Brewton is a desirable location for retirees because of its short drive to area beaches and quality of life that boasts a slower pace and lower insurance costs than living on the beach.
Steve Yuhasz, coordinator of Brewton’s ACE program, said he was glad for the representation at the expo.
Nearly 100 displays were set up at the expo. Some of the visitors Lucas talked to were from Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.
