Mr. J. W. Smith, 64, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at his residence in Flomaton. He was employed by the county and was of the Holiness faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Hosie Leon Smith, Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Willie V. Smith of Flomaton; his wife, Mrs. Willie N. Smith of Flomaton; a son, Tracey Lavon Sutton of Flomaton; a daughter, Carolyn Lynette (Chris) Gades of Kettle Falls, Wash.; his brothers, Joe Edward Smith of Milton, Fla., Hosie Leon Smith Jr. of Brewton, and Shelby Ray Smith of Flomaton; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 9, at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home chapel with Brother Pat Carden officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were George Burton, Joey Smith, Steve Dunsford, James Pops, Jeff Alexander and Daniel McBride. Honorary pallbearers were Reo Kirkland and Woodrow Courtney.
